About Evergreen

What We Believe

We believe that God created you. Why? So he could shower you with his goodness and love - that your life would make the goodness of God tangible to the world (Gen 1:27-28)!

We believe that God knows every way you have rebelled against him; all the harm you’ve caused; your deepest regrets (and it is far worse than you even know) and yet he still loves you passionately (Rom 5:8).

We believe that God himself was born into our world in the person of Jesus. That Jesus came to reveal the true nature of God - the perfect loving Father - and tear down all futile, self-righteous religions. Jesus offered his life on the cross so that all our rebellion and the harm we have caused could by justly punished. And God raised Jesus to new life after three days! (Luke 15, John 1:14, 2 Cor 5:21)

We believe that Jesus is alive and is actively pursuing a relationship with you. When we give our lives to Jesus, we instantly and permanently become a new person. Cleansed and forgiven of our sin. Adopted as a beloved child into God’s family. Filled with the presence of God (the Holy Spirit). Invited to live every moment of this life in his presence, hearing his voice, full of his power, radiant with his joy and peace, and overflowing with his love to the world! (1 John 3:1, John 14-17, Phil 4:4-7).

We believe that God has the perfect plans for you. We discover these plans as we spend time with him in prayer and in Scripture (God’s written words to us). And we experience these good plans as we trust him with every area of our lives, relying on his wisdom instead of our own. God is always working for your good. Even in the midst of suffering and tragedy, he will hold you secure in his arms. (Eph 2:10; Rom 8; Phil 4:12-13).

We believe that Jesus passionately desires every person in the world to experience his love. It breaks his heart to consider the unending misery for those who reject the new life he offers. And he is carrying out that work through his followers, the church. As a church, we join together to know Jesus more and make him known in all of life (2 Peter 3:9, Eph 1:22-23; Eph 4:11-13).

We believe that this sounds too good to be true; but that God is just that good. (Eph 3:20).

Our Story

Evergreen Church was started in 2015 - with generous support from Calvary Baptist Church, the BC Baptist Conference, and the C2C Network. We chose the name 'Evergreen' because there is a recurring metaphor in Scripture (Psalm 1 for example) that describes a healthy relationship with God as a tree planted by streams of water, with fruitful branches and green leaves, strong and resilient no matter what it faces, a blessing to the place it is planted. This is the type of life that Jesus is leading us into.

Jesus has been growing us into a church that has NO confidence in our own wisdom, strength, and abilities; but EVERY confidence in the power of the Holy Spirit at work in and through us! Our leadership strategy is simply to pursue Jesus with all our hearts, and try to do exactly what we believe he is calling us to.

God has filled Evergreen Church with some amazing people and families. There is a sense of real community and love for one another. There is a shared conviction that apart from Jesus we are train-wrecks, but that his life in us is making us new. So there is no place for judgment, or self-righteousness, or jealousy. Jesus is all that matters. And we want to experience more of Jesus individually and as a community.

For that reason, we hope that literally ANY PERSON will feel welcome at Evergreen Church. Because even though we have had different histories, and different scars, and different ways we have veered from God’s perfect path for us - we share the most important thing in common - Jesus is the solution to everything we need. We all need more of him. And everyone is welcome to join us in this pursuit!
